Mothershipper, Sorry so long to respond... I (The old gezzer) just returned from Jackson Hole, Great snow... Good times! Wow... You wrote alot... I'll try to respond to it all.
Firstly: The Giardia issue... Who cares, I was twisting the fork to get a rise... It worked. Whyt did I twist the fork??? Peruse the forum and see who began the "below-the-belt" insults. It wasn't me. I, and most Americans will push back when pushed... using the same tactics to prove a point.
Secondly: With regards to skiing, Alaska, piste/off-piste, abilities, and filming oneself. Most of these subjects I'm against arguing/debating because of the following... Anecdotal evidence/s are worthless. THey're tactics used by adolescents/ignorant debaters because the facts (especially personal accomplishments/abilities) cant be validated. In the future our debates should exclude anectodal evidences. Having said that and responding to your ASSUMPTIONS of me, my abilities, my travels, etc...
I. I'm old and I'm good. I was born in Colorado, lived here for 32 years and began skiing at 4. I work in the ski industry and have since I was 17. I have been very fortunate to make a healthy living in this industry that allows me to ski 75-100 days a year. I ski religiously, it is my life, it is my vice, it is my all. Yes, I have skied in Alaska (actually skied Denali from summit ridge to 17K foot camp, downclimbed the wall, and skied most of the remainder to basecamp betty. I've heli-skied Alaska, (again this is ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE AND I SEE IT AS USELESS, but) I take on the average two to three Alaska heli trips per year. (Jerry's, Valdez, A.B., Chris ANthonys, Coombs and my favorite... a friend who getting his own started... Neil Marcus heli-guides). I've skied your homeland as well. I've used Whistler, Klondike, ANd my favorite Selkirk-Tangiers. Two weeks ago got back from a week in the 'Mistaya lodge' in Golden, B.C. In MY experience Alaska snowconditions and terrain (pitch, spines, drops) is superior to B.C. or inland Canada... but not by much... It still rips. I've skied in Nepal, Pakistan, New Zealand, Europe, and Japan... Speaking of the "indoor ski-slopes"... I hope that doesnt come to North America. I dont think it will, as a science major graduate I think that global warming is cyclic. As for jibbing, "I seen a feller do it once or twice"... Translation... I still go in the park... (we've got a pretty good one at Breck... minutes away from where I live.) My best trick... keeping in mind I/m an OLD FART... A corked 7. I'm not afraid to throw it BIG, I'm not a coward. My best attributes favor big, steep mountains... speed and big drops and air. Thats why I love Jackson Hole so much. Ever been? You should go... Just dont spout your rants about how 'horrible America and Americans are"... THeres a few 'good-ol-boys' who will no-doubt work you over. America has great piste and off-piste skiing. And alot of it is close to major metropolitan populations where one can make a descent living. As for filming myself, Yea, I've done it in the past on a few heli-trips and did it in my late teens and early twenties... But it seems a bit VAIN to me now. Seems childish in a way, but then again... I'm an old man. I'm a cyclist, I raced cat. 'two' road and exp mountain... Mostly XC, little DH. I mostly ski now, fish, rock/ice climb and work longer hours in the summer so I can ski in the winter.
Were your assumptions of me accurate? Have I made my point?
I hate debates where anecdotal 'personal' evidence is used, It reads as though youre vain and it makes me uncomfortable... I guess you'll grow out of it.
II. NHL, CHL, Teams to America, etc.... This was deeper than you realized and intended to FOLLOW THE FORUM TOPIC. Canadas socialist/Marxist/Liberal leaning system is inferior to the American/Capitalist/Hegelist platform. Hockey proves it. Hockey is your sport and your losing it due partly to your taxed and socialist system. Yes I watch CHL, I get it on channel 286 and 311 (satellite). I compare it closely to college. It's not as fast and the talent just isnt there. What if Canada and the liberals further to stagnate your economy via the entropic liberal economic ideas and you lose the CHL to America or Russia (As its commng up in the world)? Its not just about population, your governmental system breeds un-sustainability/entropy/stagnation/failure. Curling still sucks.
III. Oil reserves. I STAND CORRECTED. Middle-east: 813.6 bbl, Canada: 178.8 bbls. THats a good chunk of oil, although I thought sand-bit was much more cost-ineffective that the crude and thus viability was a nil...I was wrong.
IV. America, believe it or not contains natural spring water as well.
V. You stated that your a mason and you believe yourself to be of higher-intelligence than myself... Please elaborate. It seems that your abit of an elitest. Do you think a mason is better/smarter than a stockbroker or a truck driver or a ski shop owner operator? I have a biology/chemistry double major and a M.B.A. Should I pity you because you, as you put it... barely finished high-school, or visa-versa? Dont play the "I dont have a degree and smoke weed..... But look what I've done and said bit... It doesnt matter what credentials you have.... only your opinions. You'll get no pity from me, I'm a republican. Keep that tactic for your liberal brotheren.
In closing, You stated that, "The US needs Canada for resources, which is y i vote liberal xXxX the states they arent gettin my water and wood."
I'll say it again... Canada needs the U.S. MORE than the U.S. needs Canada. Tell ur Canadian friends and family to quit bashing our country, our people, our soldiers and our foreign policy (when it doesnt contain or involve you and your country). Ex. The Iraq War... Its OUR War and WE WILL deal with it. You guys are on the sideline anyway.
Fuck your Liberal/Marxist/Pity-Me former sytem, May the Conservative continue to gain ground.
