i am getting new ski boots. ive been to quiet a few diferent shops over the last few weeks and i have got two diferent opinions. some shop tell me i want to leave worrying i have got the boot too short(as in it hurts my toes bcoz theyre crushed.)some other stores tell me that the previous size was at least two sizes small and that i want a boot tight around the ankle but with enough toe room. i was wondering what kind of size you go for when you first buy the boot? thanks in advance

the ankle should definitely be tight, and you should have enough room to move your toes, but dont worry if the boots feel a little tight because they liner will stretch out.  if the boot is too tight after a few days of riding then u can have your bootfitter fix the problem, but u can never fix the fact that a boot is too tight.

i disagree!!! you can make a boot larger in any way you want and its not hard at all, a tight boot is easy to work with, there are a few tricks(but not many) when it comes to making a boot smaller and you dont want to get into that.  boots should be tight, TIGHT!!!!! now it depends on the boot but most will pack signifigantly in the heel, thus your foot moves back into that pocket and more toe room is available, at the same time no one skis standing staight up(if you do then fuck off) knee's always bent, boot always flexed there for toes are good to go.  70% of ppl on the hill have boots more than a size to big, dont be one of them, a snug fit is a performance fit.  a loose fit will feel like shit when riding, will be cold, and its dangerous to a certain extent. good luck dude

jup. u better take a boot that fits good. the whole interiour will be thinner anyway while you ride. so don't worry for that. but just look that your toes don't touch when you bend your knees and flex the boot. I had a boot that was to big and that's really sh*t, trust me. you lose a lot of control if it doesn't really fit. and if it fits snug, you don't need to close the boot too tight which is defenetly  more confortable to ride with (unless you're freeriding)

Actually, boots that are too tight will make your feet colder faster.  That is supposedly one of the reasons that Salomon made a roomier toe box on the SPK.  But yes, loose boots can be dangerous.  Snug is a good way to describe the way it should fit.

a lot of people get a boot that is too big and they have to crank down the instep buckles to get some sort of control from the boots. cranking down the buckles will flatten them and not make them anatomically correct. this will cut off the blood flow going to the toes, therefore making them cold. get a boot tight and work your way out. if it fits just right, you barely have to do up the bottom buckles, and yo fit will be as good as they can be when they are in plastic shells and freezing cold weather.

im never doing anything other than custom boots again.
