When I walked through the door it was already dark and already late. I didn't mean to be late especially since I wasn't that fashionable. Outside evo guests were milling about, talking on the phone, or having a smoke. Inside it was bright and cheery with plenty of activity.

The first thing that struck me was how diverse the crowd was. Black, white, asian, scensters, breakers, tall, short, young, old, everybody was out in full effect that night. There were young kids (I might add that they were hipper than me) running all over the place . The whole vibe felt like a neighborhood block party. There was food, wine, and of course the keg, and then another keg. The music was turned up and the beats were blaring which tempted Fraggle Rock member Remy to show off some of skils on the floor. Then this kid jumped in the circle and surprised all of us with his advanced moves you wouldn't expect from someone so young.

Quest Kids is a local clothing company started by Binh Nguyen after his then 2 year-old niece was in the hospital sick with cancer. He wanted to transfer his artwork into a clothing line that would make kids both sick and healthy happy. Because of his niece's bout with cancer Quest Kids has formed a relationship with Children's Hospital who was onsite, at the event, distributing information. It's a rare sight to see hip people in Seattle promoting kids in such a way.

Shortly after I showed my ID and poured myself a brew the scene suddenly changed into an impromptu hip-hop concert complete with a DJ table set-up and local talent Godspeed. The 3 piece Godspeed got my blood flowing with a few party tracks including the ever-contagious "Say." The next second I was singing along and moving my feet. They entertained the crowd with some inspired cuts. The crowd answered back with hands raised and voices loud.

Transitioning from the circle around the hip-hop crews I crept over to the gallery to see what talent and vision of Quest Kids was all about.
I found colorful paintings on the walls complete with vintage classroom chairs with the writing surface attached on the right. Themes included youth, freedom, simplicity, exploration, and vibrant color. One can see how the paintings and photographs on the wall influnce the clothing design and production.

From the gallery a friend and I headed out to face a night out in Fremont leaving behind a party in motion. It was just the kind of energy that kept me going throughout the night. Later that evening, walking back to the car, I looked through the closed doors at evo and smiled when I saw a crowd still gathered and bodies still dancing. -kirk wimberley

MSP has outdone themselves yet again with the latest add to their repertoire, “Push”. I don’t know about you, but I have a love-hate relationship with this time of year. Some of the sickest video premiers roll into town from some of the most amazing production companies. It’s this time of year when every morning when you’re out the door you’re debating whether you should bust out your new jacket already or if its too early, all the while thinking to yourself, “Nah, it’ll get warm later this afternoon”… but you bring it anyway. It’s this time of year when temperatures drop and the first snowfall across the country teases us intermittently… then the next week it feels like the summer again. This time of year, all your friends and industry folk alike amass in one place to share the one undying passion for the VP. That’s the love.

On Friday, September 29, 2006, Seattle, Washington was lucky enough to experience an evening of emotional highs from what can easily be dubbed as one of the season’s most epic films. I hadn’t even seen the trailer, and all I was going off of was friends saying, “Oh dude, I know some guy in a different time zone who just got out and said it was siiiiick”. Yeah, thanks. Anyhow, Fremont Studios was gracious enough to open its doors and roll out the red carpet for an evening of what I was soon to find out to be a night of awesomeness. Pre-show, the mood was super chill, people slowly started to trickle in as the doors opened. I actually looked away for a bit, then turned the corner and all of a sudden, mobs! Lines ceased to mean anything and everyone was so stoked to get inside. How can you blame them? Ingrid Backstrom herself was present and accounted for signing autographs and kickin’ it with co-star Sammy Carlson. Eric Pollard? Don’t think that I wasn’t keeping my eyes open for the Line Team Shredder, but he was no where to be seen that night except for on the screen droppin’ it hot as usual.

I don’t need to sit here and tell you how rad the flick was. Okay, it was sick. Before you run out to buy it though, I’ll giver a go at ranting about the After Party. Following the movie, I was swept away with the masses as we took a short trek down the street to the nerve center of evo (www.evogear.com) a Seattle based retail and online lifestyle and apparel shop. So at this point, we’ve got a mob of stoked skiers, an open bar, Vancouver Hip Hop legends Sweatshop Union, and well, you guessed it, from there the night transitions to non-stop ski talk, break battles, pulling out all the stops , and 6 empty kegs… and that was only night 2 of a 3 night movie weekend for evo! Let the pictures do the talking!

by Molly Hawkins, part of the evo crew!

The Life and Times of Joe: Joe's Weekly Roundup
By: Joe

Alright everyone, I might try and do this weekly if time permits. I'm going to post random things I've learned over the last week, a song I currently like, and more.

Joe's Song of the week - Who am I by the Peace Orchestra. Super mellow song, great to work to, or tune out for a few minutes. Thanks to SteveDUH for sending me a link to a cool touchscreen computer that had this song as the soundtrack.

Funny Video(s) of the week - For the designers out there, I give you "What if Microsoft redesigned the ipod packaging?" and for car enthusiasts, I give you the "Top Gear Season 7 review". Top Gear is my current favorite TV show out there, it's hilarious.

Joe's super-duper tech link of the week - Windows Live Local, pretty slick mapping software (currently only works in Seattle and San Francisco) that will not only show you an overhead view, but also let you look around from ground level. Check it out, it's cool.

Alright I'll post more next week! Until then, have fun and shred whenever you can!

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Kobe Bryant kept shooting, from all over the court and from every angle.

The Los Angeles Lakers' star scored a staggering 81 points Sunday night against the Toronto Raptors in a 122-104 win. Only Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game stands ahead of him.

"It just happened, man" Bryant said. "It really hasn't, like, set in for me. It's about the 'W,' that's why I turned it on. It turned into something special.

"To sit here and say I grasp what happened, that would be lying. Not even in my dreams."

The NBA's leading scorer left to a standing ovation with 4.2 seconds remaining, having shot 28-of-46 from the floor, including 7-of-13 from 3-point range and 18-of-20 from the foul line.

With the fans at Staples Center chanting "MVP! MVP!" Bryant made two free throws with 43.4 seconds remaining for his final points. He scored 27 points in the third quarter, 28 in the fourth.

"It feels great to put on a great show here," he said.

Chamberlain scored 100 points for Philadelphia against the New York Knicks at Hershey, Pa., on March 2, 1962, making 36-of-63 from the field and 28-of-32 from the foul line while playing all 48 minutes.

Chamberlain had 59 points in the second half - the only player with more points in a half than Bryant's 55 after halftime in this game.

Chamberlain's second-highest total was 78 against the Lakers in three overtimes on Dec. 8, 1961.

Elgin Baylor held the previous franchise record of 71 points at New York on Nov. 15, 1960. Lakers assistant Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, saw that game, too.

"Elgin's game was an incredible performance, also. I don't think there's any comparison. Elgin did it without 3-point lines. His game was attacking the hoop and hitting jumpers inside 20 feet. Kobe's range is unreal, and he does it his way," Abdul-Jabbar said.

"It was a real treat. His ability to shoot from long range and also attack the hoop, split the defense and get in close for opportunities near the basket is unique. He's made a niche for himself and he deserves it."

Michael Jordan's career high was 69 points, and only four players had ever scored more than 70 - Chamberlain, Baylor, David Thompson and David Robinson.

The 27-year-old Bryant made it five. His previous career high was 62 points during a 112-90 victory over Dallas last month - he sat out the fourth quarter because of the one-sided nature of the game.

"I was just determined. I was just locked in, tuned into what was going on out there," Bryant said. "These points tonight mattered. We needed them. The points I put in the basket were instrumental. It means a lot more."

Bryant raised his scoring average to an NBA-leading 35.9 points this season.

"I never imagined I would see history like that," said Devean George, a teammate of Bryant's with the Lakers for 6 1/2 seasons. "I can't tell you where that came from. He just kept attacking, attacking, attacking - every time he got the ball."

Bryant played nearly 42 minutes, going the entire second half until being lifted by coach Phil Jackson.

Jackson coached Jordan and the Chicago Bulls to six championships in the 1990s and the Lakers, with Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal, to three more titles, from 2000-02.

"That was something to behold," Jackson said. "It was another level. I've seen some remarkable games, but I've never seen one like that before."

Bryant's performance came on the same night the NBA had its highest-scoring game in 11 years when Seattle beat Phoenix 152-149 in two overtimes. The last 300-point game in the league came when Dallas beat Houston 156-147 in two overtimes on April 11, 1995, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

"You're sitting and watching, and it's like a miracle unfolding in front of your eyes and you can't accept it," Lakers owner Jerry Buss said. "Somehow, the brain won't work. The easiest way to look at it is everybody remembers every 50-point game they ever saw. He had 55 in the second half."

Lamar Odom's 3-pointer with 7:04 remaining gave the Lakers a 100-93 lead, and Bryant scored 30 seconds later to give him 61 points and his team a nine-point advantage. The Raptors didn't pose a serious threat after that.

Bryant scored all but 15 of the Lakers' 42 points in the third quarter, shooting 11-of-15 including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Six of his points came during a 12-0 run to finish the period, giving Los Angeles a 91-85 lead.

The Lakers outscored the Raptors 38-14 to finish the third quarter to go ahead for good. They trailed by as many as 18 points early in the period, angering Bryant.

"He was ticked off," Odom said.

When asked what Bryant said at that stage, Odom replied: "Nothing. That's when it's bad."

Bryant scored 51 points after the Raptors took a 71-53 lead. It was 63-49 at halftime.

"The thing about him that is most amazing is that he is relentless," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. "We played man-to-man, box-in-one and zone. We tried to put smaller guys on him to deny him the ball.

"I saw that game he had against Dallas where he scored 62, what more can you say?"

Smush Parker added 13 points and Chris Mihm had 12 points and six rebounds for the Lakers.

Mike James led Toronto with 26 points and 10 assists. Chris Bosh added 18 points and eight rebounds and Jalen Rose scored 17 points for the Raptors.

Notes

Bryant scored a season-low 11 points in the Lakers' 102-91 victory over the Raptors in Toronto last month. He had 14 in the first quarter of this game. ... Bryant has led the Lakers in scoring in the last 21 games in which he's played. He entered with an NBA-leading 34.8-point average, and is averaging 45.5 points in 10 games since sitting out a two-game suspension. ... Toronto C Rafael Araujo, who has made 30 starts this season, missed his second straight game and third of the season because of a sore right shoulder. ... Bryant made his first five foul shots before missing late in the second quarter, snapping his streak of consecutive made free throws at 62. Michael Williams made an NBA-record 93 straight for Minnesota in 1993. ... Bryant received a technical foul with 10:44 left - shortly after being accidentally struck above the right eye.

Not much going on here. Two of my best friends got back from their trip to Seattle last night so we might go out-which is always an adventure. I'm really tired right now and stressed out for no specific reason. I think that I need to go out and have some fun tonight-I might go crazy if I stay home tonight. I know that my bf loves me but sometimes I feel like he doesn't really want to be with me. There's a difference between loving someone and being in love with someone. How can you tell??? I guess that it's one of the mysteries of life. I do trust him though-so I believe him. Life is so confusing!!!! Till next time-
Love Always-Franki

So, yeah, this season sucks, because there is no snow. That's why I don't like it in Seattle. I'd rather be home in Idaho where we actually get snow. Oh, well. Whatever. My brand new Tweaks are just laying around with nothing to do.

So to summerize my life right now: it's crappy. I miss him. and I dont like standing in the rain waiting for the bus. my toes are still cold 6 hours later.
