My Blog: thanks
By: spikerskis

It is my hope that this is one of the more uninspired peices of writing you read today.  Utah, the night before thanksgiving, no snow.  Sure, I know, the Canyons and Brighton blew enough snow to open.  So did Alta and the Bird.  So did my home resort in western Maryland.  Western Maryland.  In fact, I would bet your rent money that they've blown more snow than the aforementioned, and in less time.  Utah, best snow on earth-unless that snow is manmade, then youd better look to the mid atlantic.  Not east coast.  I'm not some god damn red sox loving, maple syrup drinkin' frenchie.  But that's beside the point.
The point here is that it's thanksgiving and I have much to be thankful for.  Thanks for the seasons I spent here a few years ago.  Thanks for the (unexpected) detour back to my hometown.  Thank you that it only lasted three seasons.  Thanks for the kids I worked with while I was there, and thanks to the people who gave me the opportunity.  Thanks to my main sponsors-my family, thanks for the Patton-esque return to Utah.  Thanks to those that continue to give me the opportunity.  And finally, thank you to God, thanks for letting me go as hard as I can until it's time to move on.  What are you thankful for?

Snowbird To Open Nov. 22

Snowbird, Utah - With nearly two feet of new snow and good ski and snowboard conditions throughout the mountain, Snowbird announced it plans to open ahead of schedule. Snowbird will open the Tram and several chairlifts Friday, Nov. 22.

"I just skied the entire mountain and it's in great shape for this time of year," said Snowbird President Bob Bonar. "We could open today if we had the staff."

Snowbird opened eight days early on Nov. 10, 2000 and was hurtled into last year's ski and snowboard season with a 100-inch storm that began on Thanksgiving Day.

Snow continues to fall at the Little Cottonwood Canyon resort that averages 500 inches per year.

Snowbird has received strong early season bookings thanks, in part, to extensive exposure from the Winter Olympics. With plans for three new terrain parks and a snow skate park on Chickadee combined with new $99 and $199 K-12 season passes, Snowbird has recorded strong season pass sales.

"Early snow is critical to a strong season," said Bonar. "Early season snowfall is a great tool for getting skiers and snowboarders excited to book their vacations. Our 100-inch storm helped us throughout last season."

Located 29 miles from Salt Lake City International Airport, Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort is North America's most accessible year round resort. The second season for the Alta Snowbird day and season pass will feature a reduced price ($64/day down from $68) and a multi-day ticket.
