Whistler Skateboar Association and the Longhorn present to
you a Skateboard Rail jam Contest/ Fundraiser.

On Thursday, September 28, 2006, The Whistler Skateboard Association will be holding a fundraiser event at the Longhorn Saloon in Whistler. We will be setting up scaffolding on the patio and creating a street-style rail/ledge setup where skaters will be able to perform tricks on the obstacles and down the stairs. There will be two hours where the ramp is open for the public to have fun on (5pm to 7pm), and then in the evening (7pm to 9pm) we will be hosting a full-on competition where skaters will be competing for cash and prizes. As well, there will be live music and other stuff going on got anyone who comes to hang out and support the Whistler Skateboard Association, a non-profit community driven group formed to help take care of some of the many skateboard related issues in Whistler, especially the underground skatepark in Creekside. After the competition, there will be the video premiere of The Peanut Gallery, a locally produced skateboard film, and then the party will continue all night. This event will go on rain or shine, we have planned for tents and coverings for the ramps and of course, everyone can hang out inside,  listen to live music and, of course, have a great time.

We will be having three main categories of first-place prizes, with a $200 cash prize given to the skater who performs the best trick on the rail, on the ledges, and down the set of stairs, each. In addition to the cash prizes, we will be giving away lots of gear to the skaters for second and third places, as well as give-aways.. As well, there will be tons of shwag give-aways for the crowd, as well as raffles for some higher ticket items such as complete skateboards from the local shops.

Some of the supporters of this event are Longhorn Saloon, UnderExposed Media Group, Nomis Clothing, Westbeach the shop, Evolution, Katmandu, Red Bull, Gauge Clothing, SkateboardVillage.com and Ogio Bags.

Ski.Colonies.com News: Free Ski Open NZ 2006
By: ski.colonies.com

Hot on the heels of their recent success overseas, New Zealand’s free skiers will once again have the opportunity to take on the world’s best, this time on their own turf, when the international Free Ski Open NZ hits Lake Wanaka on 15-25 August 2006.

With top international names confirmed for both the big mountain and park disciplines of the event, the Free Ski Open NZ promises to provide spectators with a stunning showcase of this rapidly growing sport. European Free Ski Champion ‘05 Ted Davenport (USA) will join New Zealand’s own Hamish Acland, Tom Dunbar and Geoff Small (former three times North American champion) in the Motatapu Chutes at Treble Cone in the Volkl Big Mountain event (18 August). Dunbar who had a break through performance at the second stop of the IFSA World Tour placing 8th and being presented the “Sick Bird Award” said having competitors such as Davenport competing in New Zealand makes for world class competition, which is just what Kiwi skiers are after. In the park disciplines of the K2 Halfpipe (15 August) and Slopestyle (16 August) at Snow Park, the calibre of athletes is equally impressive. Frenchman, Loic Collomb-Patton returns to defend his crown in both disciplines. Currently ranked number two in the world for halfpipe, and just missing out on a medal slot in the X Games and World Superpipe Championships, Collumb-Patton will be keeping a close eye on rising Kiwi star, Jossi Wells of Wanaka.Wells who came second only to X-Games champion, Charles Gagnier in last year’s Rail Jam event will be looking to continue his current form after a remarkably successful Northern Hemisphere season that earned him the respect of many of the top pro riders and industry insiders. What is set to be a trans-Tasman rivalry will be the match up of Jossi Wells and young Australian skier Russ Henshaw, himself taking third in the slopestyle in last year’s Open, His form continued to Europe winning the Verbier Ride and Austrian Open slopestyle events, packing a switch 1080 he will be gunning for more podiums. In addition to the on-mountain events, the Free Ski Open NZ also features several downtown events including a Ski Movie Extravaganza at Cinema Paradiso (23 August) and Invitational BASE Downtown Rail Jam (25 August)

The Jared Chronicles: McDonalds Rail Jam!
By: Canadian1st

I was in Whistler when the McDonalds rail jam was on and it turned out Aaron Shapiro, whom I do not know personally but he is a coach at the Whistler Valley Snowboard Club which I used to ride with, so I thought I would give him some support. He did a great job, sadly he did not win the $2,400 which I would have loved to see him win. But he did a great job. That's all for now, I guess...peace!

Rider on Westbeach Kink.

Sorry it took us a while to get this one up, stay tuned for another update coming really soon....

The B parks team have been busy creating a totally unique skate bowl style snow feature just above the HighestLevelPark entrance. The Park Rangers have hand shoveled a multi line bowl with kickers, garbage can lid, rail & maze gate features. The dsrop in is from the back of the hip and the Parks crew are expanding the bowl from 2 – 4 bowls that will flow right past the back of the HL Park entrance building. Skiers and riders have been having a blast trying to get multi hits in the mini bowl.

Pointing out mini bowl.

Kevin Sansalone and the Sandbox film crew had a big session on this unique set up for the upcoming release. The parks crew only ask if you hit it up, help fix it up &  the team work has been going really well. Pro skiers Callum & Sean Petit were also riding the bowl for hours as it is much easier for them being juniors and riding on  shorter skis! The Highest Level table tops are riding well & the Westbeach battleship kink is also now up & open to jib. Blackcopmb closes on April 23 so get up & enjoy some of the best Parks in the world. The World Ski & Snowboard Festival is coming up soon with the Stompede rail jam on W, super pipe on Blackcomb & the night time big air in the village. Check out the best skiers & riders in action April 15 – 22. For more info check out www.wssf.com.

Coors Light Triple Challenge Ski & Snowboard Festival

Collingwood, March 2006 – Blue Mountain Resort is beginning to change shape as the Coors Light Triple Challenge Ski and Snowboard Festival draws near.  Sunday, March 4th, the event site at the base of Smart Alec will come to life as the build of two 80 foot rails gets underway.  Massive preparation for the big air to rail component of the Coors Light Triple Challenge is scheduled to take the good part of a week, as Blue Mountain Resort’s operations team binds forces to create one of Canada’s largest ski and snowboard festivals.

The Coors Light Triple Challenge, March 9th through 11th is BlueMountain’s final event of the season, featuring a collection of events including half-pipe, slope style, rail jam and big air to rail competitions.  In celebration of an incredible season, the festival will also host one of the biggest free outdoor concerts of the year.

Top pro skiers and snowboarders from around the world are ready to contend in a series of events starting with the Friday night Oxy Rail Jam.  Mars Big Air to Rail participants will start off with an invitational day time qualifier on Saturday with the highest scoring competitors advancing to a night time final. On Saturday night competitors and spectators will also catch an open air concert at the base of Smart Alec on the Telus Concert Stage.  Heading up this year’s show is the punk inspired quartet, The Stills.  This Montreal based group will bring a splurge of live 80’s style rock to the scene.

Athletes may register Thursday, March 9th from 7:30 to 9:30 AM in Cascade 2 at the Grand Central Lodge.  The entry fee is $35.00 per contest with registration times running at the same time and location, Friday and Saturday.  Discounted lift tickets will be available to competitors following registration.  Please note: Competitors under 18 years of age will need a guardian to sign their waiver.  A practice session will run on site from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.  The competition kicks off Thursday morning at 10:00 AM.  Helmets are mandatory.

The Coors Light Triple Challenge: 10 mountain events, 30,000 lbs of rail, 13 million gallons of man made snow, 500+ athletes, 40 judges and 20,000 spectators you won’t want to miss!

My Journal: my trip to Vegas
By: Kyle

first off the departure gate at the Vancouver airport was competely boxed in which I've never seen before.  Made me feel like I was in a holding cell.  I felt better after running into Dixen, Keenan, Jared, Don and Jen.  Vegas itself was out of control.  Right after the plane ride we jumped into a huge limo to the hotel.  Huge dinner and off to gamble and drink.  I was amazed how we could buy jumbo beers and drink it outside, in the hotel, in cabs, walk in and out of stores.. didn't matter.  It was crazy.  Hard Rock was the place to party.  Fun times.  SIA was huge, I would get lost in that place trying to find stuff.  POW Gloves are coming out with the most amazing gloves ever... all white with two pink figures and one brown.  Can you guess the name of it?  The Shocker!  I thought that was rad.  Also I was super impressed with Arbor.  Bamboo shirts and boards.  If you haven't seen the stuff they make, I really recommend you check it out.

I was super stoked on how the main vibe was everyone happy.  Nelson from Westbeach gave me a little insight about a sweet new product coming out.  A press release will be launched monday next week.  O'gio was rad.  Shapiro came second at the rail jam infront of thousands of industry people.  Congrats on that.  Logan Short came 8th... go team Canada.  and Trav made sure I was right drunk most of the time and stumbled apon the best burger in the world.

All I can say in that Vegas is crazy.  The locals seem burnt out, cab drivers talk about crazy things... no laws apply in Sin City.  People throw away money like it was dirty underwear.  Everything was so huge and impressive.  Looking forward to Vegas 2007.

My Journal: 13/1/2005
By: total_destroyer

Worst day of my life so far:

The snow was wet and heavy, so I thought i'd go warm up for the rail jam at sunlight. My 450 off attempt resulted in my skis getting tangled in the rail and then me slamming the back of my head. mild concussion.
So i took a break, got some water, and decided to remain in the jam. i couldn't land sh*t. i only got swich on through the kink to 270 off on the box and simple 270's off the rail. on my last trick i caught an edge and demolished the brake on my ski. not being able to even put my foot in the ski i went down to the base and got a ride home. i went to get my shoes (stashed in a secret spot) and they were stolen. brand new xmas shoes too.
if it's any compensation i ended up taking second on both the box and rail and my big order from amazon came in the next night. plus it has been dumping up valley so snowmass will be sick this week.
keep it real and peaceful
