The world elite of freeskiing and snowboarding will challenge the monster jump at the Olympic Arena Stockholm Stadion in Sweden the second weekend of November. Live acts, a rail arena, film premieres, a winter sport fair, after parties and a lot more - all of it for free. 25 000 tickets will be distributed each day of this two-day-event.

The Nokia Snowboard FIS World Cup Big Air Tour, coming to Stockholm November 11, initiated this huge event. The ramp is higher – 33 m – steeper and longer than normal and the goal is to make it as similar to a big jump in a natural snowpark as possible. Count on huge air.

Friday, November 10, the world freeski elite including Simon Dumont, Sammy Carlson and the Swedish mega stars Jon Olsson and Jacob Wester will fly around 20 metres in Peak Performance – King of Style.

On Friday 10 November the Free Radicals latest ski movie Snowblind will have its premiere on the giant screens at the Stockholm Stadion just before the freeskiing finals. The snowboard movie Mack Dawg – Follow me around will show on the giant screens on the Saturday. Later on the party continues both nights at a venue in the city centre of Stockholm. An electronic theme will rule the ending party on Saturday 11 November with live acts, DJ’s and VJ’s.

- The combination of good music, action, life style, city, parties and contests should be a colourful inspiration for all of us waiting for snow and winter, said organiser Ulf Mård.

My Journal: am I nuts?
By: yvettegillam

I love big mountain riding. Is there anything better then standing at the top of a chute looking down to only see what looks like a drop? No. This rush is something I really enjoy when that fear starts to enter your heart and heart gos to your mouth, the arenaline kicks in and over rides that fear. The drops, exposed rocks, narrow gaps and threat of avalanches is some thing your brain is always thinking about and how to get thru them with out ending up leaving in the medi-vac. It's what I love. The other night I was thinking what i want to do in the way of goals in life. My major goals in life now include: Avalanche forecasting. The other goal still satands for next season, decent of Mr Wiggles at Mica heli. It'ajust amazing spine and I wanta ride......

April 2nd 2006

Event brief

On April 2nd 2006 Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta will play host to The Tournament. This new twist on the team challenge event format will pit team against team in a battle where strategy, skill, and an ability to ride all types of terrain will be the keys to success. Each team rider will compete in one of the three arenas - the quarterpipe, the jump, or the urban jib.  All sessions will have cash prizing for the top three finishers.  The team with the best overall results will take home $6 000 cash, as well as prizes worthy of THE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS!

Competition OUTLINE

THE TOURNAMENT offers Canada’s up and coming amateur talent the breakthrough opportunity to compete with top pro riders to vie for cash and bragging rights. This team challenge competition will require a rider from each to compete in one of the three arenas. Riders will compete in 90 min. sessions against members of the opposing teams. Team members will not be competing against each other. Teams will consist of 3 riders. Each rider must compete in only one of the three arenas of competition. A maximum of 35 team entries will be allowed. This will ensure each session will afford riders ample opportunity to showcase their quiver of tricks.

Strategy is the key to this competition as teams choose which member competes in each arena. For a team to be awarded the title of THE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS they must excel in all 3 arenas over the course of the entire day of competition from frozen morning jibbing to slushy afternoon quarterpipes.  Properly choosing when to exploit your teams’ strengths will make the difference between

success and failure.

THE Courses

Riders will be presented with terrain and obstacles designed to challenge and inspire all levels of competitor. THE TOURNAMENT will consist of three arenas - the Quarterpipe, the Urban Jib, and the Jump.

The Quarterpipe will be a 22’ high monster with wallride and jib options.  Riders will be judged on all the features of this unique quarterpipe. Giant airs will be necessary, but you must slay the entire beast to take the top spot.

The Urban Jib will demand versatility and creativity. This unique course will consist of a gauntlet of rails, boxes, wallrides, ledges, bombdrops, and a chimera.

The Jump; The simplest of all the competition arenas. This 50’ straight jump will provide riders the opportunity to display their entire repertoire of tricks.  The jump will have multiple takeoffs.  Booters, floaters, and something out of the ordinary for the true combatant.

STRATEGY

To win The Tournament each team will need to employ a strategy unique to their team that takes advantage of the team challenge format.  Each session will consist of a maximum of 35 competitors, each from different teams.  Points will be awarded to each competitor for their final placing in each session.  Teams will accumulate points for each session. The team with the highest points total from all the sessions will be the overall TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS.  Teams must choose who will compete in each arena.  Alberta in the springtime can be hazardous and icy at 11am, and windy and too soft in the afternoon of the same day. Choosing which team member can ride the best in the varying conditions will be vital to success.  Although, it has been known to snow three feet in 24hrs in April in Calgary.  Teams will need to be prepared to attack the courses and defend against Mother Nature’s offensives. Preparation and strategy will play a part in the outcome of The Tournament.

howdy all. finals are over and i am soooo happy. they went fine...actually really well, i just hate the  pressure and stress that comes with school. im so excited about the holidays. i lost 15 pounds during school and im claiming the holidays as my 'pig out with out any guilt cause i need it' time. lol yesterday my sister and i went to pizza hut and each ate a half a stuffed crust pizza. man it was good. foods awesome. lol so my doctor report came back from my ski accident and it seems i have a hairline fracture of my pelvis. that probably explains why i walk like a duck. lol not really....well kind of. haha anyway, i went to a hockey game last night (fri) and my sister and i are regulars so we've got quite the group of friends going. my uncle is third up on the pole for a big construction company that owns the icedogs (thats the team) anyway so we allways get free stuff and weird attention from the mascot and announcer. its kind of like rex (the mascot) and geno (the announcer) trade games as to when they bug us. last night was rex's night cause the darn dog wouldnt stop bugging me. my sister and i walk into the arena before the game and discover him following us. of course you have to do the whole high five thing and smile and get all excited. we thought that that would cure it....but nooo. rex has to come to our box and bug us with more high fives and dancing. cause of my pelvis issues i had to walk around alot instead of sit in the rock hard chairs. everytime i got up to walk rex would be lurking around the corner just waiting. it got the point where i was trying to run from him but thats not really possible with a fractured pelvis. lol all he had to do was walk fast to catch up...there was no escaping. i was scared he was gonne snatch me up and make me sit on the back of the zambonie. they have this goofy little chair for kids to win rides on the zambonie and it looks like it would snap off any second. you get strapped into it and then have to wave to the crowd and stuff and they driver re-does the ice. its my worst fear that ill have to do that. over stimulation usually is due to the loud music and geno's painted face suddenly appearing in front of mine....but last nights over stimulation went to the dog.

I'll be un-contactable for the next 4 days, BACKCOUNTRY CAMP OUT TRIP YAY! I'll post pix soon as I get back. I can't wait snow to 500 metres, hello powder!
